Maruti Suzuki XL6: The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is a premium MPV that combines the comfort of a family car with the strength and character of an SUV.
A variation of the popular Ertiga, the XL6 takes it up a notch by bringing in comfy captain seats, rugged styling and a petrol that you don’t need to hide under the hood.
Available through Maruti’s premium channel that operates as NEXA, the XL6 hopes to cater to the buyer who’s looking for space, comfort, efficiency, without skimping on the looks or the price.
Whether for city families, inter-city travelers or fleet buyers, the XL6 is a multi-use machine that doesn’t try too hard to look utilitarian — and that’s a big part of its draw.
SUV-Themed Exterior with Premium Touch
Maruti Suzuki has managed to make the XL6 look different even though it is based on the same platform as the Ertiga.
At the front, there’s an aggressive chrome-accented grille, sleek quad-LED headlamps and thicker bumper which amplifies its SUV-inspired form.
It also looks more aggressive thanks to black cladding all over the body, roof rails and dual-tone alloy wheels.
It also has enough of a raised stance and sculpted lines running along the sides to make it stand out in the MPV crowd. At the back, the Bespoke MPV comes with LED combination lamps and a chrome garnish bringing its premiumness to a next level.
Altogether, it’s a vehicle that leans far more crossover than the typical people-mover.
Roomy Cabin with Plenty of Features
Climbing aboard the XL6, one secures a cabin that’s not only comfy but functional, too. This spacious six-seater layout has captain seats in the middle row which are very comfortable and ensure stress-free long drives.
There’s a black theme inside, with silver highlights and a pretend leather trim adding an air of class.
The XL6 is well-equipped when it comes to features. You also get a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as connected car technology via Suzuki Connect.
Other goodies are cruise control, auto climate control, push-button start, rear AC vents and a height-adjustable driver’s seat.
The third row is short of space for adults but will serve children and short adults for short trips: likewise the limited boot space is likely to be sufficient thanks to the ability to fold the rearmost seats down.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, it continues to be powered by Maruti’s tried-and-tested 1.5-litre K15C Smart Hybrid petrol engine; good enough for 103 PS and 137 Nm.
It comes with either a 5 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed automatic tranny with paddle shifters. During acceleration this hybrid setup helps, and as a result the fuel efficiency is much better.
Performance isn’t wild but the engine is so smooth and it’s tuned for city driving and freestyle highway cruising.
An auto-transmission also confers convenience on urban users. Fuel efficiency is commendable for a car in its dimensions and it returns mileage of almost 20.97 km/l (MT) and 20.27 km/l (AT).
The ride is soft and comfortable, easily soaking up rough roads. The XL6 is a good highway car and never runs out of legs, but quick changes of direction or fast cornering are best undertaken with a bit of caution.

Safety and Reliability
The safety in the latest Maruti cars has been better compared to the models of the past, and the XL6 is no exception. It gets four airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera also help in the tight urban parking.
Being a Maruti Suzuki offering, the XL6 gets the advantage of low cost of servicing, strong resale value and a wide coverage of service outlets across India.
