Bajaj Dominar 400 come with attractive look and more mileage

Bajaj Dominar 400: Originally introduced to take on the big bikes from international brands, the Dominar created a space for itself as a power cruiser that combines a muscular design, performance on the highway and everyday usability.

It continues to get better over the years: Bajaj has updated and polished the motorcycle in keeping with the times, where customers are demanding increasingly more value and versatility for their money.

Bold and Muscular Design

From the outset, the Dominar 400 appears to be big, mean and well built. It doesn’t quite have the light and skinny profile of naked street bikes.

Instead it owns its heft with fat body panels, a bulbous, sculpted tank and a serious stance.

Stand The headlamp is one of this bike’s standout features, featuring a different form compared to the others that provides great visibility to anything ahead in the dark.

The low-slung bike has a rather long wheelbase so it has a bit of a long-distance cruiser posture, but still some sporty in it.

The two-tone paint schemes, machine-cut alloys and the beefy exhaust end can enhance the premiumness.

Powerful  Performance

Peek below the tank and you’ll see the Dominar 400 has a 373.3cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, adapted from its cousin, the KTM Duke 390.

It makes 40 PS and 35 Nm, and is one of the most powerful bikes in the segment.

It comes paired with a slip-assist clutch assisted six-speed transmission which ensures lesser fatigue and easy downshift in city and long distance rides.

It feels powerful, particularly in the mid-range. It drives smoothly off the bottom and feels reassuring when cruising on the highway.

The Dominar’s sweet spot is cruising at 100-120 kays and there’s more than enough grunt to leap forward with urgency.

Ride and Handling

For a bike of its dimensions (almost 193 kg), the Dominar 400 is quite easy to handle.

The perimeter frame is nice and stable, and the weight of the thing helps the bike stay planted at speed.

Suspension wise, it features upside down forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. This arrangement provides a comfortable ride on the highway but may be a bit stiff on potholed city streets.

For braking, the Dominar gets disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS.

The brakes provide adequate bite and feedback, and you can brake with confidence from high speeds as well.

Cornering capability is a bit more than adequate, but it’s nowhere near as nimble as some other lightweight nakeds, thanks to the cruiser focused geometry.

Features and Practicality

The Dominar 400 sports an all-digital instruments administrative cluster that includes-speedometer, odometer, trip meters and gear position indicator.

There’s even another display mounted on to the tank for more details.

The display is more than serviceable but is a bit behind the times compared to newer bikes with their TFT screens and smartphone connectivity.

Cruising is the Dominar 400’s forte and it does that very well indeed.

The riding position is extremely comfortable and the seat is really comfortable for both rider and pillion.

The 13-liter fuel tank may go for 350 km-plus, depending on the way it is ridden and the terrain. And mileage ranges at about 28–32 Kms/ltr, which isn’t bad for a bike of this size and power output.

Price and Value

Another Bajaj vehicle that packs in a capability beyond its size is the Dominar 400 – for a price of nearly ₹2.30 lakh the ex-showroom price, you get a potent engine, high-end equipment and the ability to munch miles for a price much cheaper than the motorcycle’s abilities suggest.

A perfect motorcycle for those looking for an entry in the 400cc segment without having to burn a hole in their pocket.
